Rain Storytime 4/12/16 and 4/13/16

If you're a cloud and you know it float around (raise arms to side and sway)
If you're a cloud and you know it then you'll really want to show it,

But not on me! (throw scarf)

Craft: We made umbrellas out of paper plates. The plates were cut in half and decorated with torn paper.

Literacy tip of the week: Singing songs with repeated refrains helps you child by exposing them to simple sentence structures. Over time this helps them recognize the patterns that make up sentences.

Squirrel Storytime 4/5/16 and 4/6/16

ASL Sign of the Week: Squirrel

If you're a squirrel and you know it 
(Actions include brushing your fur, climbing a tree, and shaking your tail)

Frisky Squirrel (to the tune of "The Grand Old Duke of York", from HCPL Storytime)
Oh, the frisky squirrel,
He gathers nuts and seeds, (pretend to gather seeds)
He hides them for the winter months,
So he'll have all he needs!
Oh, up, up, up he goes! (reach up)
And down, down, down he comes. (reach down)
He runs around, goes up and down, (run, go up and down)
His work is never done!

Squirrel, Squirrel
Squirrel, squirrel, turn around.
Squirrel, squirrel, touch the ground.
Squirrel, squirrel, climb a tree.
Now shake that bushy tail with me!

A Tree is a Home (from Holiday Zone)
A tree may be a home for a bird (flap arms like a bird)
A tree may be a home for a bee (buzz hand like a bee)
A tree may be a home for a snake (slither like a snake)
A tree may be a home for a monkey (swing arms)
I would if a tree would make a good home for me? (point to self)

Up the tall white candlestick (one arm raised)
Went little Squirrelly Brown (move other hand up raised arm)
But when he got up to the top,
He could not get back down.
He called for Mama.
"Mama, Mama!"
But Mama was in town.
He called for Daddy.
"Daddy, daddy!".
But Daddy wasn't around.
So little Squirrel curled right up. (roll hand up)
And rolled right down. (roll hand down arm) 

Craft: We decorated a squirrel template with cut pieces of yarn.

Literacy tip of the week: Animal sounds are a great way to explore the noises that make up our language. Talk with your child about squirrel noises and other animal sounds.
