Monkey See, Monkey Do (from Perry Public Library)
Monkey see, monkey do,
Little monkey in the zoo,
Little monkey in the tree,
Can you (insert action) like me?

Run Little Ducks (from Athens County Library)
Run little ducks,
Run like a flash! (run)
Jump in the water with a splash, splash, splash! (jump three times)
Paddle your feet all around, (kick feet)
Waddle on home when you hear this sound: Quack, Quack, Quack!

Down in the Jungle (from The Library Ann)
Down in the jungle with a beat in your feet,
Think of an animal you'd like to meet!
Kids call out animal name and make sound

Craft: We used bingo daubers to color a picture of a bear.

Literacy tip of the week: Making animal sounds is a great way to play with sounds and prepare for sounding out words.

Red, White and Blue Storytime 9/11/18

If you're wearing red today (to the tune of "The Muffin Man", from Green Bean Teen Queen)
If you're wearing red today,
Red today, red today,
If you're wearing red today,
Stand up and say "Hooray!"
(repeat with other colors)

Way up high in the apple tree (modified from Literary Commentary)
Way up high in the apple tree, (lift arms)
10 little apples smiled at me!
I shook that tree as hard as I could, (shake back and forth)
Down came the apple, (wave hands towards ground)
Boy was it good! 

If you like the color (to the tune "If You're Happy and and You Know It")
If you like the color (name a color)
Clap your hands!
If you like it and you know it and you really want to show it,
If you like the color (name a color)

(repeat using different colors and actions. You can stomp feet, wiggle fingers, turn around, etc)

Craft: We painted star print outs red and blue. 

Literacy tip of the week: Show your child the cover of a book and talk about the authors. This is a great way to help kids realize how the writing process works.
