Wonderful Winter Storytime 1/22/18 and 1/23/18

Books read:
Bear and Hare: Snow by Emily Gravett
Little Penguin gets the hiccups by Tadgh Bently

ASL Sign of the Week: Snow

Let's All Do a Little Clapping
(Tune:"We Wish You a Merry Christmas", modified from Storytime Katie)
Let's all do a little clapping,
Let's all do a little clapping,
Let's all do a little clapping,
and spread winter cheer!
Other actions can include stomping, jumping, twirling, etc.

Snowky Pokey (from Everything Preschool)

You put your right mitten in,
You take your right mitten out.
You put your right mitten in and you shake it all about.
You do the Snowky Pokey and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!
Other verses can include boot, hat, whole self, etc.

Once there was a snowman (modified from Jbrary)
Once there was a snowman,
Tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted,
Small, small, small.

Sledding (from Perry Public Library, to the tune of "Row your boat")
Crunch, crunch,
Crunch, crunch, crunch (bounce)
Up the hill so slow,
Sliding, sliding, slide (rock back and forth)
Down the hill we go! (lean back)

Dance like snowflakes (with scarves, from Jbrary)
Dance like snowflakes,
Dance like snowflakes,
In the air, in the air.
Whirling, twirling snowflakes,
Whirling, twirling snowflakes,
Everywhere, everywhere.
Other verses: Spin like snowflakes, Fall like snowflakes

Snow on the grass (with scarves, from Jbrary)
Snow on the grass (wave scarf on ground)
Snow on the tree (wave scarf in air)
Snow on the roof (put scarf above head)
But not on me! (throw scarf)

Craft: We painted with white paint and cotton balls to create "snow" pictures.

Literacy tip of the week: Mention the author and illustrator of books as you read with your child. This is a great way to introduce the idea that every book is created by real people.
