Wonderful Winter Storytime 1/24/17 and 1/25/17

Books read:
Snowballs by Lois Ehlert
Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson

Other book suggestions:
Bear and Hare: Snow by Emily Gravett
Little Penguin Get the Hiccups by Tadgh Bentley

ASL Sign of the Week: Snow

Let's All Do a Little Clapping
(Tune:"We Wish You a Merry Christmas", modified from Storytime Katie)
Let's all do a little clapping,
Let's all do a little clapping,
Let's all do a little clapping,
and spread winter cheer!
Other actions can include stomping, jumping, twirling, etc.

Once there was a snowman (from Jbrary)
Once there was a snowman,
Tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted,
Small, small, small.

Snowky Pokey (from Everything Preschool)
You put your right mitten in,
You take your right mitten out.
You put your right mitten in and you shake it all about.
You do the Snowky Pokey and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!
Other verses can include boot, hat, whole self, etc.

Snowflakes (to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", from Preschool Education)
Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around.
Snowflakes, snowflakes touch the ground.
Snowflakes, snowflakes in the air.
Snowflakes, snowflakes everywhere!
Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around.
Snowflakes, snowflakes, sit back down.

Five Little Snow People (from Jbrary)
Five little snowpeople all in a row.
Each with buttons.
And made of snow.
Out came the sun and stayed all day.
And one of the snowpeople melted away.

Craft: We made "melted" snowmen out of white squares of paper, cut out noses and eyes.

Literacy tip of the week: Practice recognition of print with your child whenever possible. Pointing out words and letters in your environment will help your child understand how print works.
